Asus Bringing Android 3.2 To Eee Pad Transformers Tomorrow

We're still not sure whether the rumored performance upgrades are baked into Android's latest tablet iteration but we're glad to hear that updates seem to be rolling in quite quickly. Asus is the next on deck, announcing via their Facebook page that the Asus Eee Pad Transformer would see the update starting tomorrow, July 28th. We will be hurriedly refreshing our sample and post our thoughts as relevant.

When can we expect the Asus Transformer 2? The lack of high profile H.264 support is the only thing holding me back from the current model. I refuse to transcode my entire video library, it was a ridiculously short sighted omission by Nvidia to launch the Tegra 2 without high profile support. It's 2011!!!Any speculation on the release date would be great! I've seen anything from Q3 to Q4 to Q1 2012. Q3 is looking less likely at this point, but one can still hope for early Q4 right?

I know I have not seen any hard or soft dates for Tegra 3/Kal-El hardware of any kind yet. I currently assume that the speculated Nov.-Dec. release dates for tablets with this chipset will be the very earliest they will happen since it would be silly to release without Android 4.0 available (and hopefully debugged a bit). I would not be shocked to see them slip to Q1 2012, though the Christmas season might again force a release before the OS and drivers are really ready.We do have the OMAP 4460 (1.5GHz ARM Cortex A9) based Archos tablets coming in September which might have the horsepower you need (though Archos' build quality and software stability are not known to be strong).

Then let's hope that Android 4.0 is out early enough for the Nov-Dec release. I'd rather a finished product that be a beta tester!They demonstrated Kal-El several months ago, so let's hope that means Nvidia has put the chip in the hands of all the right engineers. The OMAP 4460 would be fine in the transformer as well, I have no preference for Nvidia, as long as proper video acceleration support is there.

I'm beginning to think that the best company to buy a tablet from is someone used to making PC hardware. Someone who is used to writing drivers and providing timely updates.
