this is microsoft's version of Continuity. Start one task on phone, and finish task on pc.
Except microsoft won't lock you in like apple. Very smart move, and i love the direction Microsoft is going. Apple only gets away with lock-in because they are "hip and fashionable" right now, but 5 years down the road, lock-in will be their downfall.
I think the point is you don't have to give up Siri. You can still use Siri, but if you want to use your PC to set reminders and such, that will now be available on whatever phone you have.
If they get it right they could make file exchange easier than with native solutions on the other platforms. Apple will hate this, as they don't support SD cards for a reason and earn extraordinary margins on those iSomething storage upgrades.
well for the different OS and overall phones. That's a tough nut to crack given the current marketshare but getting that huge amount of people that use android used to microsoft apps can make a transition easier for the customer.
That's true. Plus Microsoft is primarily a software company, so they are doing what they feel is best for their business. And at least with all their apps going multi-platform, I can buy whatever phone I like and use their services that I love on my WP. It's a good thing for a consumer, I suppose. Lumias are great devices, especially given how they perform. I just didn't see any good ones launching this year, except the 640 and 640XL. They are excellent for their price. Let's hope the trend continues.
I imagine if they can get enough people using MS Office, Cortana, and even Bing on Android then the fact that they're using Android becomes less and less relevant... Seems like a stretch, but Google kinda did the same thing in reverse to them on desktop so hey...
"Many of us have PCs, and with Windows 10 the digital assistant will be front and center, but Microsoft is certainly aware that Windows Phone does not have the market penetration to allow Cortana to be used wherever you are" wait. what? sure most in a first-world country have a PC (the rest having macs), but only a minority of the worlds population have either.
whereas a majority of them have a smartphone. it's purpose? to always be with its owner.
the digital assistant being "front and center" will be the one who works best on the most popular smartphone os...
You can already do that. Just add your sync your email account and it will import your contacts.
I have done that for the last 2 years (Kit Kat) but I'm guessing it was already possible before. Since 5.0 Gmail now handles your alternate emails as well so you don't have to use separate apps.

I might use Cortana instead of siri if it's an option. Nothing wrong with Siri but I really like CortanaMurloc - Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - link
no, but if you set reminders on the PC, you can have the push notifications on your phone.I think the point is not using it as the personal assistant on the phone as it clearly can't have the same level of integration.

Will Cortana have a personality?Brett Howse - Tuesday, May 26, 2015 - link
Me: Do you have personality?Cortana: I thought you'd never ask, so I've never thought about it.
So I guess we're undecided on that one

I mean... cool. I like this. But hardly anything is exclusive to WP devices now. Why should anyone buy them? just for the UI?Murloc - Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - link
