Anything interesting about those NDA CPUs? ;0)

You get SSDs for free along with a nice note attached to it, asking if you need anything more. I wish I had a job like yours! :D

I know that it says nothing groundbreaking but I would believe if it was an intel drive. It looks a sleek as the old intel ssds
  • Chloiber - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

    I don't think it's an intel drive.
    Maybe JetStream? Who knows? ;)
  • pattycake0147 - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

I'd agree with the assumption that it's a JetStream. I'm looking forward to see how other 6Gb/s drives are going to perform compared to the C300.
  • Qapa - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

Could it be a Jetstream one?

In any case, are there any news about the JetStream? When should it come out? Anyone knows?

    Thanks

Sampling should have started in Q1 2010, according to Dailytech:
    http://www.dailytech.com/Indilinxs+Next+Generation...

    - 500MB/s
    - SATA 6Gbps
    - DDR NAND
    - Release 2010

So this would be a perfect match. And the SSD is coming from OCZ: remember, Anand also hat an engineering sample of the OCZ Vertex. Everything is pointing to Jet Stream imho.
  • pattycake0147 - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

I definitely think it's an OCZ. If you look at the full size image you can see the enclosure has a sharp rectangle cut out for a sticker. All of the OCZ drives have the same enclosure. Other manufacturers have similar enclosures, but the rectangle cut-out has rounded corners. The OCZ drives have, and this one has sharp corners on the cutout. That combined with the fact that Anand mentioned JetStream in the Vertex 2 review makes me think it hax to be an OCZ JetStream drive. My question is when it will be released.

The new SSD automatically decides whether data should reside on the SSD or on a HDD amright? I remember reading a mention about it, and I was pretty excited.

    If I'm right, do I get a prize? ;]

The mysterious black one has to be an Intel 25nm SSD :-D
  • numberoneoppa - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

My money is on a new Indilinx controller inside of that bad boy!
  • cuttingedge-jp - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

The last one might be RealSSD "P300".

Interesting. Is there more information available regarding the P300?
  • kushbape - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

"I'll leave you all to speculate as to what it is, but I've hinted at it in a recent SSD piece."

Oh please. I have better things to do, like grab a pint. Or make this forum post saying this type of coy editorial is unnecessary.
  • capeconsultant - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

Interesting how most think that is what it is. I guess that would be my guess also.

Is that just a 6GB Indilinx, or would there be other changes too? Very exciting.
  • Opus5001 - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

    Is she hot?
  • Earthmonger - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

How about a consumer-level SSD from Seagate? A company their size not getting into the market of consumer SSDs is just plain weird. Pulsar variant maybe?
  • capeconsultant - Friday, April 30, 2010 - link

Amen to that. Seagate is determined to go backwards in the storage arena. It really is just plain weird.

I cannot wait to see a WD drive at Staples, which is usually the very last to get new tech. That will be serious penetration of the market has happened. I predict by Christmas, FOR SURE. Go WD!

What's the deal with the "this just in" tag line? It's getting annoying =/
  • numberoneoppa - Saturday, May 1, 2010 - link

Anand already explained. It's just so we have something to keep our mouths watering, he shows up what's arriving on his doorstep that we're going to see more details on in the future. Personally, I love it.

Is it the Gskill Phoenix based on sandforce 1200?
  • VMguy - Monday, May 3, 2010 - link

Is this the same Onyx for sale on Newegg with 3/5 reviews claiming DOA? (one reviewer claims 2)
  • retnuh - Monday, May 24, 2010 - link

So were these drives ever tested?
