Er, should be "lots" instead of "many", since you used "lots"/
  • yacoub - Monday, July 11, 2005 - link

#9 = uh no, not "many" at all. "Few" would be a more accurate word.

"wow, this guy lives a fantasy life."
Grass always seems greener on the other side. I'd bet you'd find his job quite tedious if you had to do it day in and day out.

I agree with SDA. I know quite a few teenagers and trust me despite being smart they are plain lazy. And their social life comes off as a priority (not that there's anything wrong it) but you have to sacrifice something in order to achieve success especially at such a young age. Anand would've never come this far if he went out every night with his friends instead of working on AnandTech.

There's a thin line between envy and jealousy. Maybe it's more like a gradient. Point is, they're close together.

Anyway, the problem with those teenagers is that a lot of them suck at what they do. Maybe they're tone-deaf or tasteless and want to make music, maybe they can't write but want to make a comic or novel. A lot of them are smart kids, but that doesn't mean they have any talent in the area they want to spend their life in. In fact, many of them really suck at it (no offense, kids, follow your dreams). Most people with relevant talent and lots of drive attain a considerable measure of success. Especially if they have moxie and sass.

"Well, let's not forget that one of the reasons for his success is is hard work and knowledge. How many teenagers do you know would put their social life on hold just so they can grow a site?"

Lots of teenagers put their social lives on hold to work on some grand ambitious project; be it a web site or a programming project or a novel or a comic or to make music. And a lot of them are very intelligent too.

The difference is a few are very successful at it and most aren't.

I don't know him personally; I'm sure he deserves everything he has. More power to him. I'm just envious; not jealous.

Well, let's not forget that one of the reasons for his success is is hard work and knowledge. How many teenagers do you know would put their social life on hold just so they can grow a site? Not very many. Social life is the last thing people would put a hold on.

Anand has worked hard (and I mean HARD) for the last 8 years. And now his hard work is paying off.

wow, this guy lives a fantasy life.

Flys to all the exciting conferences, meets with all the big names in games, technology, and computers, does exciting, intelligent, highly respected, lucrative, and independent journalism, he's building his second highly custom house, perfect wife, he's still in his early 20's...

Nice nice. Me and my girlfriend usually play Xbox Live at her house .. mostly Halo 2. But she likes to watch me play whatever I am currently playing which now is San Andreas.

Hey Anand, do you have anything to say after today's release of ATI's Q3 report? With the R520 delayed, and ATI sitting on top of nearly twice as much inventory as last year, it would be nice to hear a bit more about what's going on up there.
  • falloutboy - Saturday, June 25, 2005 - link
