I'm glad to hear that you are working on improvements to the comments system. While that is the topic I'd like to suggest a method of black-listing people by username. I'd love to be able to permanently suppress messages of posters I find to be a waste of my time.
A system by which I can simply click on a button/link next tot he poster name on a comment to add them to the blacklist would be ideal.
On a different topic. I acknowledge the inherent difficulty but I'd like to see an impartial brief review on Single Core/HT/Dual Core CPUs handling dual MMO clients.
More ATI pr bullshit there is no such think as 100% efficiency
I'm sick and tired of people constantly yeaping (SP) about unified shaders and how great they are , will in truth they hardly are all that great and have disadvantages although as well as advantages to separate vertex and pixel shaders.
Anyway this is great Anand i’m looking forward to it and i hope it won't be a "Jon Hannibal Stokes" article but I doubt it :) unlike him you actually know what your talking about

It’s so powerful that I’d say that this feature alone makes the Xbox 360 technically superior to any other console planned for the next five years.

Re X360:
"As all the sampling units for frame buffer operations are multiplied to work optimally with 4x FSAA this is actually the maximum mode available. Although the developer can choose to use 2x or no FSAA, there are no FSAA levels available higher than 4x." -http://www.beyond3d.com/articles/xenos/index.php?p...
So what happens after these consoles come out? Another long comparison article? Not sure how one is possible without having the systems in your hands but okely dokely.
Also, Anand could you tell us anything on the G70 and R520 releases?
I have to admit I chuckled a bit when you said you got sick Anand; and not because I wish anything bad upon you, but rather because of just how consistently you end up ill(if you're traveling, you're usually ill). That said, it seems the sicker you end up the better the tradeshow was, so for 5 AT guys to get sick must mean it must have been one heck of a show.=) These next two weeks should be something, eh?
Ananand, why is your weblog so seperated from the front page? You were doing blogging before it was the 'cool' thing to do. More and more sites are either blog centric(gizmodo, engadget) or pushing blog content on their front page (Ars).
I don't know about the others but your articles are always good and you keep VERY busy. But if the article is in the pipe then thank you. Can't wait to read it and I tend to think PS3 has its potential bottle necks like PS2 did. But onto the future and the article posting
*gleaming with excitement*
Thats simple. The Cell sucks at general-purpoe computations, which is what PC's and Macs tend to use a lot of.
What good are those 7 cores mowing through billions of vector operation, if the program you're trying to run is Photoshop or Word?
The you're basically left with the one main core to do all the work.
Ok, a bit simplified, but that's roughly it. The Cell is extremely powerful in some specialized cases, but for a PC (or Mac) processor, it just doesn't cut it.
it's kind of confusing...I just read an article on Gamespot and apparently all Japanese developers agree that PS3 will be much much more powerful than the X360...cause of the cell
and then we have this:
"Kutaragi tried to interest Jobs in adopting the Cell chip, which is being developed by IBM for use in the coming PlayStation 3, in exchange for access to certain Sony technologies. Jobs rejected the idea, telling Kutaragi that he was disappointed with the Cell design, which he believes will be even less effective than the PowerPC." From News.com
hey Anand (or anyone else)...it was mentioned in Famitsu by the editor Munetatsu Matsui that X360 will have hidden features which will be enabled by a Live Update a year after its launch...based on your extensive knowledge of the systems, what would you speculate this to be...
How about a secure P2P network like that announced for the PS3?
Anand, it's great to hear things are progressing! Having digested the Ars Technica and Beyond3D pieces on Cell, the XBox 360 CPU, and Xenos, I'm eager to hear more.
Otabel: I agree that Sweeney's in a certain rarified league with John Carmack, but he has the advantage of being responsible for developing AAA software on PC, XBox 360, and PS3, all at once. If anyone's got a good idea what the different architectures are like to program for, he has.
I'd be very interested to see some interviews with other "middleware" providers, such as the folks at Criterion (Renderware and I think Gamebryo), and anyone else that's working on cross-platform development, either for the current generation or for the next. The differences in architecture are quite fascinating to me.
Thanks Anand, that's what I'm talking about, it wasn't that hard was it? A little update on the situation.
So you talked with Tim Sweeney? That's great news, but that guy is one hell of a geek, of course he thinks developing for the Cell is "easy" as he said this past E3, but not all developers are in the level he is, the other I can think of is John Carmack......
Anyways, thank you very much, I'm sure you won't dissapoint, we know nothing is finalized nor fully tested so you won't be able to tell us some things, but that's fine and understandable.
Thank you again for not taking my pressure as an insult as it was never meant to be that way, there's just a lot of anticipation on that article, get ready 'cause your site will get lots of traffic once the article is released.

Anand,What they did on other sites was a ip ban for about a week. If they did it again they would be baned for a month. It seems to have worked pretty well

> The first one you'll see debuted will be the new comments system [...]Personally, I find the comment system redundant and unnecessary.
Why not just put a link to a forum thread, like most other sites do?
The forum allows for easy quoting, searching, email notifications (if you find a topic interesting), etc.
Why do we need a separate "forum lite" that lacks those features?

Is the Xbox 360 limited to 4x AA?Is the PS3 limited similarly?
Should we even care about 8x or 16x AA?

Ahh, it sounds like there's going to be a lot of nifty articles going up over the next two weeks. Why is that significant?
Because I'll be on holiday in the middle of nowhere! :)
Rest assured, as soon as I get back, AnandTech will probably be the first website I start reading :)
Maybe I can bribe someone to print out AnandTech stories and post them to me ;)
