    For Anand,

Sorry to divert you from your console-fun for a moment to more mundane matters. But this one may be important and needs your sleuthing ability.

What is the technical reason as to why the Pentium-D 820 does not apparently work in dual-core mode on a (Intel) nF4-SLI motherboard ? (See the X-bit Labs article on the P-D 820 )

nVidia has thrown up a California-style smog-screen and Intel refuses to comment. And, so far, nobody in the review community (including Xbit-Labs )has yet underclocked to 2.8GHz the 830,840, Pentium Extreme 840 on a MB in which the P-D 820 fails just to initially check for a nVidia technical problem.

Major Nelson may be be skewed, but it had **some** good points.

Major Ynos is an abvious attempt at Parody by a PS3 supporter.

I truely hope people aren't dumb enough to buy Major Ynos as anything else. But know people, me fears

ha ha...not to be touting MS's horn here...but that comparision is weird...ofcourse Blue Ray has a higher capacity than DVDs. Plus a higher clock speed does not signify more power...how about power pc vs. x86?

    I'm waiting for Anand's comparision!

#10 Dave: What? Are you jealous? I am an Enginner by trade and I think I can confirm Anand's schedules. I was also at CES 2005 earlier this year and the guy is definitely busy. While I was at one of the parties hosted by an AnandTech advertiser, I went there a little early. And the PR Rep. told me that Anand had just left the room five minutes before I got there.

Anand doesn't care about parties, and he doesn't get any money from sponsors. The only money he gets is from the advertisers, and I am hoping that you don't have a problem with that. AnandTech is a business just like CNET.com, PCMag.com etc. etc.

In fact, my enginnering company sometimes takes advice from Anand on market trends. You better trust me when I say this, we have to get our appointment quite a few days before our meeting. The guy is definitely busy.

Just because someone is working online doesn't mean that his job is any easier than yours simply because you have to dress up early in the morning and actually have to go work in an office. So, stop being a bitch and stop your damn whining.

    Anand,

Stop making it seem like your always at meetings and your so busy trying to get all the information. Just enjoy taking all the trips while you can from the money you get on sponsors. So, stop complaining, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

hey Anand...I know you're busy with the report but since it's based on the Major Nelson thing, you SHOULD listen to the blogcast of the MS Engineers who wrote that comparision. They have explained a couple of things in there...

    good luck!

and if it could possibly be compatible with OSX down the road, once it has been hacked. by that I mean, is it's hardware (X360 of course) fundamentally compatible with OSX, or is this PowerPC chip different?

really looking forward to your analysis. Could you also mention something about the expected noise level of both systems. With all that heat, is it going to be like the noise of pc's ...

better sleep a lot on the airplane... With anand's tech connections, they shuold make a new presidential cabinet position for him 'Special Technology advisor to the President'....
  • JoeS - Thursday, May 26, 2005 - link

Jerome at Jerome on Technology blog seems to be in agreement with much of Major Nelson’s findings and adds a few charts of his own.

    http://spaces.msn.com/members/jeromeontech/Blog/cn...

He does however give the nod to the PS3 on general purpose performance and total memory bandwidth.

I'm as confused as ever. Anxious to see your evaluation Anand.

I would also love to see comments from developers producing works for both platforms like EA. That would sure be telling. I'm sure they have to be mum on that though.

Found a good article on xbox 360 architecture derived from Microsoft’s patent... wanted to get Anand's take on it, and see what he thinks... this sounds believable.
