"The pre-installed I/O shield is white and matches up with the boards aesthetic,"

... and will clash with the vast majority of case exteriors that aren't white.

There is a good chance that it will clash with cases that ARE white... Or you can wait two years and something will have turned yellow.

And then it will match your 90s used-to-be-beige case!

i9-9900X 10 cores $990 4.4 GHZ boost or 3900x 12 cores 4.6 GHZ boost $500, and pcie 4.0 let me think about this...

And I wonder if AMDs 40 lanes are crippled unless you buy there more expensive 3000 series parts?

I don't think the 3000 series CPUs have 40 CPU lanes unlocked, the chipset does.

You need to have Threadripper to have mass CPU PCI lanes.

Happy to be corrected but this is my understanding.

What does the OLED display do? Even if I could see my tower in normal use, I'm not sure what useful information could be displayed on a small screen inside of it.

CPU temp, CPU utilization, a custom logo, a lot of options really.

Why ASUS would you waste such a forward thinking and seemingly quite expensive design on tech (X299) that will eventually be out the door as soon as Intel ramps up production on 10nm. If ASUS was smart they would've applied that same design to their upcoming motherboards for AMD's X570 line up then all AMD would have to do is make 50th anniversary edition 3700X and then I'd be set 😉

Why do we still have boards coming to market with stupidly designed VRM cooling like this? F.

They (and I'm not even referring to a single manufacturer here) tried - these days they put proper heatsinks on them rather than the near-decorative flat bits of aluminium they used to, but then they go and trap the whole arrangement in a box around the I/O panel with no airflow. Wtf?!

i agree vrm coling and all cover plastic and chipset, no space between ram and pci , most cards have backboards. and slot 3 only for smal card or als you cant puch buttens

The best we can do is offer some fundamental direction on the most proficient method to pick a motherboard, and pass on you to do your own examination. The main thing to consider is the elements. Do you intend to have a PC with an illustrations card, a sound card, space for a future Wi-Fi connector, and possibly a lot of other extension cards
