So we're downgrading from a RTX 2060 to a MX 250 because that makes all the sense!

Depending on the application, it does. My manager bought one of the previous model to use as his work laptop. Do you think he needs a 2060 for PowerPoint and WebEx?

Probably also alot less noise and increased battery life with a less powerful gpu.

And considering this looks to be more of an office machine and not gaming laptop its a good trade off.

Technically speaking, having a more powerful GPU does not make the battery life any worse when doing office tasks because the GPU remains off during low intensity workloads (graphics-wise). It will be running on the iGPU when using powerpoint/chrome etc

Gamers often seem to be very myopic; maybe a result of spending so much time in front of a screen!

They also dropped the "Pro" moniker, so yeah, it makes sense. This isn't likely meant for gamers and will almost undoubtedly have better battery life in its intended use cases.

The UX481 is already available in some regions, there are even reviews out. 1920x515 is the resolution of the secondary display. Battery life is apparently really high, like 10 hours of video watching on a loop, no doubt helped by the 10W gpu and 15W cpu. The main upgrade for the CES 2020 version is the main screen has been upgraded to a touchscreen. Price tag in the UK is £1500 to the pro duo's £2500 or £3000 depending on the spec.

I am waiting for the dual touchscreen variant to be available in the UK before buying but when I emailed Asus support about availability they said "probably before next CES" and nothing more.

Now they told me the model is available with retailers it’s called UX481fly and ux481fal retailers like Currys, amazon,John Lewis and scan.co.uk have it but I googled it and it wasn’t there so I asked them for proof and no reply yet

I think Asus's support people are a bit confused. There are two models of UX481 available in the UK, the UX481FA and FL. Neither of these have the optional primary touchscreen. When that shows up I'm expecting it to appear in the US first, possibly with a new model number, which should be some time in Q1 but that's coming to an end soon.

I'd really miss being able to rest my palms on the laptop. A supplemental wrist rest would be almost a necessity due to the additional strain on tendons due in no small part to keyboard positioning. While I love the idea of more screen area, this design looks like it gives up a lot of comfort for something of a gimmick feature.
